Katherine Roberts
LMFT-Associate & TBRI Practitioner
Hi, I'm Katherine, and I work with individuals, couples, and families navigating a variety of challenging issues including but not limited to personality disorders, serious mental health diagnoses, PTSD/CPTSD, relational trauma, and the everyday strain of relationships, parenting and/or family life.
My approach blends Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). TBRI is built on a simple idea: behavior is communication, and much of what looks like conflict, shutdown, or acting out is really a nervous system trying to feel safe. EFT complements this by focusing on the emotional bonds underneath our behavior, the idea that most pain and conflict comes from disconnection, and most healing comes from finding our way back to safe, secure connection. Together, these approaches let me work with both the nervous system and the emotional bond: helping you understand what your body and behavior are communicating, while also rebuilding the trust and connection that let old patterns loosen their grip whether that's between partners, between a parent and child, or within a family as a whole.
I work with:
- Individuals managing the effects of personality disorders, PTSD, CPTSD, relational trauma, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder
- Couples caught in painful cycles of conflict, distance, or disconnection
- Families working through ruptures, transitions, or long-standing patterns that no longer serve them
- Parents looking for support with the day-to-day and long-term work of raising kids
Relational trauma and PTSD, CPTSD and personality disorders often show up in the same room, in the way we love, the way we fight, and the way we parent. I don't see these as separate specialties so much as different angles on the same core question: how do I feel safe enough to connect?
My approach
I bring a steady, direct presence to the room. Therapy with me isn't about being told what to do — it's about slowing down enough to actually see what's happening between you and the people you love, and why. I'll challenge you when it's useful, and I'll sit with you in the hard stuff without rushing you past it.
As a parent myself and a human navigating life, I can relate and understand the experience from both sides of the desk, the theory and the 2 a.m. reality of being human. That shapes how I show up for the clients I work with. You will be met with realistic expectations and zero judgment during our work together.
My background
I am currently a doctoral candidate in Couples and Family Therapy, with clinical experience in crisis counseling, residential treatment settings, and adoption-related work. I am currently a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate, supervised by Carolyn Mehlomakulu LMFT-S.
